How to draw the profile of road?

The baseline of survey doesn't follow the direction of road completely. I mean to say baseline is not in center line and the road and baseline are not completely parallel. In such case i have to draw the gutter line profile of the road. The stationing is based on the baseline. In such case how can i make the gutter line profile.I am also surprised that in such case plan and profile don't match up. Could anyone enlighten me in this issue?

How to draw the profile of road?
your profile will be shown per stationing.

in profile, the view is linear left to right. the fact that the road goes into and out of the paper doesnt matter. if there are elevation changes along the road, then you will see these reflected in the profile.

many time the "L" line (layout line) and the "P" line (project line) dont match up. this is most often the case when real roads (old ones) were laid out on Section Lines or even old fence lines. a lot of this old engineering comes back to haunt us .

Now you need to creat a new alignment for the proposed roadway. It can be at the gutter or at the centerline or even a lane line, its up to you.

1. create the alignment and stipulate the reference point and the starting points.

2. its easies if you create a new layer for this alignment only, then you can turn it off.

3. Sample this alignment from r/w to r/w or whatever.

4 make the profile.

5 later youlll want to add your cross section/templates.
